The Nest is a calm and welcoming space for all children to access should they need to. It is a homely space with a dedicated staff: Mr Bastow, who is trained as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA); Mrs Logan, who is a 1:1 teaching assistant and Ms Tompkin, who is the Pastoral Lead at Scarcroft Primary School.
The principle aim of the Nest is to support children with additional social, emotional and mental health needs and is focused on Key Stage 1 and 2 children. Our nurture provision provides short term, focused and inclusive interventions with the aim of equipping children with emotional and social resilience. Children who come to the Nest remain very much part of their class. While these children are in the Nest they take part in interventions to meet their specific needs and break down barriers to learning. They also have access to regulation activities such as mindfulness and arts and crafts.
As part of our Nurture provision, Mr Bastow runs a breakfast club in the Nest each morning for pupils who need extra support starting their school day and a lunchtime club. The Nest is also a quiet space for children to access at playtimes should they need to.
