Lateness and absence

Lateness and absence

Lateness

If you arrive at school after the normal 8.50am start time, please sign your child in at the school office via the Inventory electronic signing in system. The reason we ask this is entirely for the safety and welfare of your child. It is a Government requirement that we complete the attendance register, are able to supply recorded evidence of latecomers and absences and are aware of every child’s whereabouts as part of the ‘Safeguarding Children Initiative’. Even more vitally, we need a record of the fact that your child is on the premises. Please help us to ensure our records are correct.

You will also need to tell us that your child is having a pack-up or requires a school meal for lunch. Please speak to a member of the Admin team. If your child requires a hot meal, they will ensure a meal is ordered for them.

Absence

Please notify us by 8:30am if your child is unable to attend school for any reason. If we don’t receive notification, we will contact you as early as possible within the same school day. This is because your child may have set off for school but not arrived, which would be a safeguarding concern. You can contact the school via email scarcroft.primary@york.gov.uk or telephone 01904 806635 and select option 2.

For planned absences such as medical/dental appointments, please fill out an absence form. Planned absences for non-medical reasons, such as external examinations, require a letter to the Admin team. Your child should be signed out using the Inventory electronic signing out system and then signed back in again on their return back to school.

Holidays during term time can only be authorised if sufficient evidence showing exceptional circumstances is provided. Please speak to a member of the Admin team for further information.

Illness
If your child is ill, please email scarcroft.primary@york.gov.uk or telephone 01904 806635 and select option 1. Please provide your child’s name and class, the dates they will be absent and the reason for the absence. Please be aware that children must be absent for 48 hours from the last episode of diarrhoea or vomiting.

When a child is ill at school and needs to be collected, a member of the Admin team will contact you. Please make sure that we have up to date contact details. Before taking your child/children home, you must sign them out of school.

If your child is still ill the following day, please remember to inform us before 8.30am.
