Dear Parents and Carers,
As another school year comes to a close, I’d like to say a great big thank you for your continued support. Schools work best when staff, families and children work together, and we all feel very fortunate to have such a supportive community at Scarcroft.
I’m sure you’ll join me in thanking everyone who works at Scarcroft – our teachers, teaching assistants, office staff, site team, catering staff, MSAs, After School Club and Breakfast Club team, music teachers and volunteers. They are an incredibly talented, dedicated and passionate team who work tirelessly to provide the very best for our children and families. Their collective commitment, expertise and care are what make Scarcroft such a positive place to learn and to work each day, and I am enormously grateful for everything they do.Â
Celebrating success!
It’s been another busy year, packed with memorable learning experiences, sporting events, performances, competitions, trips and celebrations. Looking back, it’s the way our children have approached these opportunities—with enthusiasm, resilience and kindness—that has made the year such a success.
Broadening horizons!
One of the year’s highlights was our first international residential, with many of our Year 6 children travelling to Paris. It was a fantastic experience, and the children were a real credit to the school. From practising their French in local markets to taking in the views from the Eiffel Tower, they embraced every opportunity with confidence and maturity. We’re already looking forward to next year’s trip – and this time we’ll be linking with a school in Paris with whom we’ve made a link and will be exchanging letters with in the run-up.
This year also marked the first time our children had the opportunity to experience three residential visits across Key Stage 2: two days in Whitby for Year 4, three days at Peat Rigg for Year 5, and four days in either Paris or Paris in York for Year 6. These experiences have provided invaluable opportunities for children to develop their independence and resilience while creating lasting memories with their classmates.Â
Enrichment
As you know, one of my main ambitions for Scarcroft is to provide every child with a wealth of enriching opportunities, both in and beyond the classroom. These experiences play a vital role in developing ‘the whole child’, helping our pupils to grow in confidence and character, while discovering new interests and talents. Alongside our commitment to academic excellence, we want every child to leave Scarcroft with wonderful memories, broadened horizons and the skills and self-belief to thrive in the next stage of their education and beyond.Â
Thank you to those of you who have already responded to our parent enrichment survey. As a school, we enter the Ofsted window in September. One of the things that we are really proud of and want to celebrate during our inspection is our Enrichment and Personal Development offer and the positive impact that this has on our pupils. We would really appreciate it if you could take the time to think about the impact that these activities have had on your child and write a few lines explaining this for us. This could be in terms of their confidence, independence, knowledge and understanding of the wider world or something else entirely.Â
Please follow this link to complete the survey – it should only take a few minutes. Your help is much appreciated.Â
IQM
We were delighted that our Inclusion Quality Mark Centre of Excellence status was successfully extended following our recent review. The report recognised Scarcroft as a welcoming, inclusive school where children feel valued, expectations are high and strong relationships underpin everything we do. It also highlighted the positive partnership we have with our families, and that’s something we are particularly proud of. Thank you for everything you do to support your children and the school—it really does make a difference. Take a look at the report here if you haven’t seen it already.Â
Farewell
To our Year 6 children – you’ve been a fantastic year group. You’ve thrown yourselves into everything this year, from SATs and the Year 6 production to Paris and Paris in York, and you’ve represented Scarcroft brilliantly throughout. Secondary school will bring new opportunities, new friendships and, unfortunately, considerably more homework! We know you’ll take it all in your stride.

Thank you for the laughter, the energy and the many memorable moments. We wish you every success for the future and hope you’ll come back and let us know how you’re getting on.
We are also saying goodbye to Mr Bray, Mr Haywood, Mr Davies, Mrs Wheeler, Nathalie and Maz at the end of this term. We would like to thank them for everything they have contributed to life at Scarcroft and wish them every success and happiness in the future.
Summer break
Finally, I hope the summer gives everyone a chance to recharge, whatever that looks like for your family. If you need any additional support over the holidays, please let us know before the end of term: Safeguarding@scarcroft.elt.
Thank you again for your continued support this year. Have a wonderful summer, and we look forward to welcoming Key Stage 1 and 2 back on Tuesday 8th September, and our brand new EYFS pupils for their staggered start to Scarcroft!Â
With my very best wishes,
Jennifer Mitchell
