Your weekly news from Scarcroft School

4th April 2025

Welcome to our weekly roundup!

Dear parents and carers,

We’ve made it! Happy Easter! It’s been an action-packed half-term, and everyone is looking forward to a very well-deserved rest. As ever, it has been a joy to watch the children going from strength to strength in their learning as well as in their wider curricular activities, and they continue to make us (and you) proud, every day.

Healthy Scarcroft

As you know, I’m determined to offer a fantastic sports offer at Scarcroft, promoting some of our key Scarcroft values such as ‘healthy’ and ‘determined’, and this term, children have represented us in a whole host of sports. They have played their socks off across the board and we think they’re amazing!

Changes to the start of the school day

We’d like to trial a new way of children coming into school. The hope is that mornings will be calmer and more purposeful, and children can get on with their learning more quickly. Here’s the plan:

  • Children arrive at school between 8.40 and 8.50am
  • Rather than queuing up on the playground, children walk straight into school via the following doors:
  • Y5/6 – green door
  • Y3/4 – blue door
  • Y1/2 – courtyard doors
  • Please note, parents will not come into the school building with their children.
  • Teachers will remain in their classroom with a quiet task for children to complete as soon as they come in.
  • Teaching assistants, myself and Mr Oxley will be on hand at the doors, cloakrooms and up the stairs to assist children and take any messages to teachers as necessary.

We will trial this for summer term, and make any adjustments as necessary. Many thanks for your support with this. If you have any further queries, please let us know.

Easter Raffle

A huge thank you to Lizzie Fathers for organising our Easter raffle which was a huge success, as usual. We’re so appreciative of all her efforts, and also so grateful for your contributions to ticket sales. All proceeds will go towards improving our offer for children!

Have a wonderful Easter break everyone!

Best wishes,

Jen Mitchell

Art Camp at Scarcroft this Easter, with two incredible weeks of creative adventures

In our Mini Art Camp (ages 4–6),  workshops are all about bringing stories to life, exploring movement, colour, and texture in playful, gentle ways. There are also sessions which are exploratory, perfect for little ones who love building, doodling, sculpting or just getting a bit gloriously messy, basically it’s all about having fun !

And for our Junior Art Camp (ages 6–11) – get ready for the ultimate creative adventure!
We’ve pulled together an unforgettable mix of filmmaking, street art, catwalk fashion, DJ workshops, 3D printing, and even walking with alpacas! This is not your average holiday club – it’s bold, exciting, expressive, and packed with opportunities for kids to discover new passions and build confidence in the most creative way possible.

Reception

The children had the most fantastic time when Purple pig farm came to visit us. We were lucky enough to see a range of different animals including a calf, goats, rabbits, pigs and chicks. The children showed us how caring and gentle they are with animals!

The children became baker’s this week, making the most delicious easter bunny biscuits. They helped with the ingredients and used their rolling skills to create the perfect size biscuits.

Recognition Awards

Fishergate

Henry– For showing us how sensible you can be during your learning, using your listening skills and making sure you are being bronze. Also, for showing your independence skills in provision, finding areas that you enjoy and being creative. Well done Henry.

PeterGate

Leo C – For showing us a massive improvement in your learning, confidence and attitude. You have shown us how amazing you can be, wowing us with your listening skills, engagement in lessons and how kind you can be to your friends. Well done Leo.

Year 1

In science we have been learning all about our five senses. Each week we have investigated a different sense and learnt all about our fantastic senses. Last week we learnt about hearing and tested our ears to see if they could recognise what was hiding in each pot when we shook it.

This half term in Computing we have become digital editors! We have practised our skills at using technology to take good photographs – ensuring that they are steady, clear and close-up. Then we transferred these photos to the computer to edit using the software sketch.io. We experimented with changing the size and colour of our images, as well as cropping them. We’ve learned so many valuable skills!
