Your weekly news from Scarcroft School

1st May 2026

Welcome to our weekly roundup!

Dear parents and carers,

I hope you’re all well and are looking forward to a nice long bank holiday weekend. It’s been another busy week at Scarcroft, with trips to Cliffords Tower for Year 3, Forest School for Reception and Bikeability for Year 5. We had some super feedback from the cycling instructors who said that Year 5 children’s behaviour was impeccable – he had visited up to 60 schools in the past and we had the best students by far. He said they concentrated well, took instruction and were extremely polite. We’re very proud of them, as ever.

School uniform – a reminder!

Our school uniform is important to us. It is just one of the ways in which we identify ourselves as a school family and it promotes a strong, cohesive school identity which supports high standards and expectations in all areas of school life. All children should wear our uniform and we encourage them to maintain an acceptable standard of clean and tidy dress in school. All uniform should be labelled with your child’s name/class.

Our school uniform is as follows:

  • Black or grey trousers or shorts, grey skirt or pinafore dress, red gingham dress.
  • Plain or embroidered with logo white or red polo shirt or plain white button shirt.
  • Red jumper or cardigan with or without logo.
  • Dark coloured or white socks or plain grey, black or red tights.
  • Black tracksuit with white crew neck T-shirt for PE, shorts or skort in summer term

Please see further information on the website for details: https://scarcroftprimaryschool.co.uk/uniform/

Remember, we have a school eco-laundry (ready for construction on Tuesday and Wednesday next week), so if you need help, please just ask in the school office and we can provide you with any items you might be missing.

Reception

EYFS have been learning all about the past! We took a trip to the castle museum to compare life now and life in the past. The children designed toys, walked the Victorian street and even enjoyed joining a Victorian school. The children compared the similarities and differences of school in the past and school now. Thankfully we all decided we much prefer Scarcroft!

Art

Year 3  have been honing their observation skills, focusing on describing specific shapes, textures, and patterns found in various objects. By engaging closely with their surroundings, the classes are enhancing their artistic abilities while fostering critical thinking and creativity. The ability to observe and articulate details helps them connect more deeply with the world around them, a vital skill that aligns with the National Curriculum’s emphasis on creativity and self-expression in the arts. Pupils are mastering shading techniques, applying the four shading rules to depict areas of light and dark effectively. This skill enriches their artwork and supports cognitive development.

Geography

This half term, pupils will learn to identify major cities across the United Kingdom, enhancing their understanding of regional diversity. They will explore distinctions between villages, towns, and cities, fostering critical thinking about human settlements. We will look at Ordnance Survey maps that should enable pupils to interpret geographical data effectively, a vital skill for academic growth. Understanding various land use types will allow students to engage in discussions about urban planning and environmental management. These competencies reflect our commitment to nurturing informed and active citizens, helping students appreciate their surroundings and the interconnectedness of geography.
